FLUORIDE

Fluoride Treatment to Strengthen and Protect Teeth

At Nuwave Dental & Orthodontics, we're dedicated to offering our patients the highest-quality dental care, from children as young as three months to adults of all ages. One of the most effective preventive treatments we provide against tooth decay is fluoride treatment. This natural mineral strengthens tooth enamel while helping prevent cavities or reverse early signs of decay.

At Darien, IL our dental team led by Dr. Najjar is committed to helping you attain and maintain optimal oral health. Fluoride treatments offer safe, simple, and long-term protection of smiles with long-term effects.

Benefits of Fluoride Treatments

Professional fluoride treatments offer patients several advantages, including:

  • Preventing Tooth Decay

Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel to make it harder for decay-causing bacteria to penetrate into your teeth and cause decay.

  • Reversing Early Decay

Fluoride may remineralize areas where decay has begun but hasn't developed into cavities yet.

  • Fluoride Can Help Reduce Tooth Sensitivity

Fluoride application can be an effective way to combat tooth sensitivity by strengthening enamel and covering exposed areas with coverage. Furthermore, fluoride application is fast, painless, and can even be done as part of routine dental cleaning appointments!

  • Fluoride Treatment Is Safe and Beneficial for All Ages

Fluoride is safe and beneficial for children of all ages when used appropriately; children as well as adults may benefit from regular fluoride applications; whilst treatments are suitable for both groups.

How Often Should You Receive Fluoride Treatments

Our typical recommendation for fluoride treatments is every six months during regular dental checkups. However, those more prone to cavities or with certain risk factors may benefit from more frequent applications. Dr. Anas Najjar can assess your oral health and make personalized recommendations based on individual needs.

What Is Fluoride?

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in water, foods, and dental products like toothpaste and mouth rinses. Its main benefit is strengthening tooth enamel against acid attacks from plaque, bacteria, and sugars in the mouth; fluoride applied directly can even repair early decay before it progresses further into cavities.

At
Nuwave Dental & Orthodontics, we offer professional fluoride treatments with higher concentrations than what can be found over-the-counter, to maintain tooth strength and health for those at an increased risk of cavities. These treatments offer many advantages in keeping teeth strong and healthy - especially those at increased risk of cavities.

The Fluoride Treatment Process

At Nuwave Dental & Orthodontics, our fluoride treatment process is straightforward and quick, typically taking only minutes during a regular dental exam or cleaning. At these appointments, your Dr. Najjar or a member of our team will apply a fluoride gel, foam, or varnish onto your teeth easily and discreetly - here's what to expect:

  • Preparation: Your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned before fluoride treatment begins.
  • Application:  Fluoride can be applied using various forms such as soft toothbrushes, swabs, or trays and should be painless and non-invasive.
  • Setting Time:  After applying fluoride, it should remain on your teeth for several minutes to allow it to penetrate the enamel and take effect.
  • Post-Treatment Instructions: Following the application of fluoride treatment, instructions will be issued advising to refrain from eating or drinking for approximately 30 minutes following its administration, to allow time for its full absorption into the enamel.
